Two hours northwest of Tokyo lies the lush outdoor retreat of Chichibu. Nestled between mountains, valleys, and waterways, this city exemplifies Japan’s natural beauty at its finest. Most notable is the local Hitsujiyama park, known for its surreal canvas of blooming pink moss in the springtime. Although my visit was past their prime, the remnants of color were beautiful nonetheless.
